This is Wednesday’s Icon, Every Wednesday we reprensent to you another Tech Personality in Nigeria. Today, we are looking at the inspiring story of the Honourable Minister of communication and Digital Economy in Nigeria, Dr ISA, Ali Ibrahim Pantami – FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, PhD.
Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) was born on 20 October 1972 in Gombe State, Nigeria. He begins his education life by attending traditional School for memorizing the Qur’an, called “Tsangaya School”, Were he spent more than four years in the school. After his secondary education, he spent additional two years seeking for more religious knowledge before moving to university. He studied Computer Science at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, Nigeria, where he gained his Bachelor in Technology in 2003 Session and an MSc in 2008, before obtaining a PhD from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. He spent his life pursuing both formal and informal education, by switching from one form to another.
He is also trained on Digital transformation in Harvard University, USA, then Management Strategy in both, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Institute of Management Development in Loussaune, Switzerland. He was also in Cambridge University for Management Programme, among others
Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami moved to the international Islamic University of Madinah where he served as an associate professor and head of technical writing in the year 2014. He also taught courses such as operations research, software engineering, information system application and principal marketing. He was also the secretary of member of three major committees; the staff training and development committee, information technology committee. With no effort wasted, the Honourable Minister is a unique and reputable citizen of Nigeria.
‘The right way’ – of the Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy
The Honourable Minister of Communication during his administration has justified the importance of the Nigerian economy to operate in digital form. He justified his statement about the Ministry to be re-designed from Ministry of Communication to Ministry of Communication and digital economy as he had brainstorm around the 8 pillars of the Ministry policy for a greater development of the country’s economy.
Further speaking under his leadership, vital steps had been taking to enhance the transition of digital economy, and to make all economic sector of the country to be digitalized. According to the minister the achievable aim of digital economy, is to have a digital Nigeria i.e. for citizens to be computer literate, owning a digital device which is on facilitation process, having access to internet, so as to lessen difficulties of individual affairs, owning, accessing and operating a banking system online and digitally. The minister had stated that at the end of this decade hopefully Nigerians and the country’s economy will be operating its activities electronically.
The achievement of Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami in the IT Ecosystem
Dr Isa Ali Pantami with his selfless effort to the masses acquired lots of public position in respect to his trustworthiness and justifiable governance. His outstanding professionalism and integrity earned him the highest recognition in the global IT industry: The Fellowship of the British Computer Society (FBCS). He previously served as an IT consultant to many National industries.
He is also a fellow of the institute of Information Management (FIIM). He is also a certified professional of CCNA, he attended various capacity building such as driving strategic innovation and achieving high performance throughout the value chain at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in collaboration with Massacliusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cambridge USA. Furthermore, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami has been conferred with the award of professional Fellowship of Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS).
In Nigeria economy, oil and gas sector had been the major sector contributing mischievously to the increment of the country’s GDP, but Pantami reported to have said that at the 26 October 2019 event ICT made up 13.9% of Nigeria’s GDP more than oil and gas sector’s 8.8% share. However this indicates that the Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector had contributed more to the Gross Domestic Product than the oil and gas sector in the first quarter of 2019.
During the 39th Edition of GITEX taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Dr isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, officially Launched the Unity Board, a made in Nigeria Educational Educational Technology Platform. The hardware is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology build up to develop Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths (STEAM), also to yield a physical hardware that will facilitate the acquisition of technical skills and performance. The Nigeria News Agency reports that the board is an initiative of the Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, when he was the Director General of NITDA. Dr Agu Collins the Director Cooperate Planning and Strategy Department, also a co-author of the Unity Board said it would ensure the teaching of Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) from the basics.
